The secret behind the only "immortal" creature on Earth
This creature is almost undamaged, able to survive comfortably in the harshest conditions. Now, humans have found the mystery behind them.
This creature is almost undamaged. They live in all environments, from the ocean floor to the summit of Everest.
Whether they are "boiled" in 150 degrees boiling water, or even if they are frozen at "absolute zero", they still live. Even throwing them out into the universe - which can kill people for a minute, they are still comfortable ... doing sex and giving birth.
Tardigrade, also known as water beetle.
"The biggest finding of this study is that water bears have developed special genes that allow them to survive in the driest conditions," said Dr. Thomas Boothby of the University of North Carolina at Durham. "
The protein encoded by these animal genes is unique. It was named TDP, in the name of a creature less than 1mm long.
Previously, the dreadful survival of water bears was attributed to the trehelose, a sugar found in the body of the shrimp.
The water-bear's dreadful survival potential is attributed to trehelose
What does this finding mean? According to Dr Boothby, experiments have shown that TDPs have similar effects on other biological materials: cells, bacteria, etc. So science can use this protein to protect the soil from drought. Drought, preservation of drugs without refrigeration.
The study is published in the journal Molecular Cell.
